Internet Marketing: A Basic Formula

Filed in: Internet Marketing by admin on 01-07-09

To date I have been involved in the Internet Marketing niche for about one year…so far.  Although I have numerous other niche websites which take quite a bit of my time, I must say that Internet Marketing is probably the most exciting.  It is certainly the busiest niche for me at any rate.

One point I need to make is that it has been about one year since I took action in the Internet Marketing field.  I have been slowly collecting and learning about Internet Marketing since joining Cory Rudl’s newsletter over ten years ago, before Derek Gehl took over after Cory’s tragic vehicle accident.

Anyway, I did finally take action.  I was frightened at first, because I knew how  many thousands of pages I had and learned.  I was scared to death to start in the I.M. niche, which is why I went into other niches instead.  They were just easier to do.

There are so many different aspects in the world of Internet marketing along with countless options that you could take, that it can sometimes be difficult to maintain a well-informed “big picture” outlook.  This was my whole problem and is particularly true when you’re just starting out as I did.  It’s almost like swimming in a sea full of Internet Marketing sharks, not knowing which way to turn with that infinite sea of IM information, ideas and promotions.

But, once I got going, I realized that Internet Marketing is isn’t really that complicated at its core.   Believe it or not, there is a simple basic formula that underlies just about everything we do.

The trick is to strip away all of the bells and whistles and just look at the basic principles.  Yep, there really are only three things that you need to know, and which really stand out.  These three “principles which we are really interested in are:

Traffic.

There’s quite a bit of information about traffic, but in essence, you need to get customers to your websites or blogs if you are going to make any sales at all.  And, if you are going to get any customers, you first need the people that visit to become prospects.  Yes, of the three basic principles, Traffic has got to be the biggest of the “big three” principles.   Hey, you cannot make any money if you are not able to connect peoples eyeballs to your offers.

Conversion.

After you get the traffic and all those eyeballs you worked so hard to get to look at your offers, you need to persuade these individuals to make a purchase or at least to take some kind of action that can put money in your bank account and into your pockets.  The act of people taking the action that you wish them to is called “conversion”.  Without conversion, who cares how much traffic your get.  Traffic is useless without conversion.

Money.

Well, I guess this one is obvious.  No matter what you do in life, you need to make money in order to sustain yourself; in order to live.  Every time someone makes a purchase or “takes the action” you want them to, you still need to make your money.   Although “money” may be the third principle you need to be concerned about, “money” is all important.  This is the end goal of your entire efforts of starting an online business in the first place.  Not just money, but how much money you make for every sale matters very very greatly.

So what happens when we put these three principles together?  Well…we get the Internet Marketing basic formula:

Traffic x Rate of Conversion x $ per Conversion = Gross Profit

When you think about it, this basic formula is pretty obvious.  It may not be as simple to implement, but with proper step by step planning, starting any online business, not just Internet Marketing, is pretty easy…just remember that simple is not necessarily the same thing as easy
