Not too long ago, article marketing as a way to pull in tons of traffic to a website was kind of an underground secret that many did not even want to talk about because they were making money like it was growing on trees.

Back then you could write a small handful of articles that were properly optimized and people would easily find them creating a massive amount of backlinks to the author’s site.  With all these backlinks, traffic became very profitable for some very smart website or blog owners.

Well, article marketing is still quite strong, but it just isn’t the bonanza it once was only a few years ago.  Now, why would that be?  Are articles losing their once massive strength to pull in traffic?

Easy question, but the answer is a little tougher.  Although article marketing still has strength to bring in traffic, there are more and more people trying to bring in that same traffic.  There’s nothing really different about article marketing today than it was a few years ago.  It still works the same and the strategy hasn’t changed much at all.   The competition however, is much more fierce.  There’s just more people doing it.

Back then a website owner who submitted well done articles had much better results than they would today, just because less people were vying for the same level of success.

Sure, article marketing is a little tougher today than before, but it still works.   Money can still be made by marketing articles to increase your traffic.  An article marketer still needs good, relevant and targeted content.  They still need a well written resource box and a proper selection of keywords.  However marketing content needs a little extra if you want to separate yourself from the rest of the pack.  Remember they are also writing articles and submitting them to article directories.  You need to stand out from the crowd.

This extra “mojo juice” can make all the difference in the world to the way you market your articles to increase that profitable traffic you work so hard for.

So, if you’re thinking of just publishing an article and submitting it to EzineArticles.com , please do not expect to wait for the money to start pouring into your bank account.  This is still effective, just not on it’s own any more like it use to be.  You need to combine it with other methods.  Article marketing should only be a part of a winning strategy and not the only strategy.
