Although monetizing your site using Adsense Advertising is pretty easy to do, you shouldn’t expect to see much cash in your adsense account compared to other methods of monetiziation.  Google Adsense pay checks can be rather small in comparison to a site full of quality content that features affiliate links to products that you promote.  You can actually make substantially more promoting affiliate products than with Adsense clicks .

Your conversion rate will certainly be lower by using affiliate links than with Adsense ads, but each conversion through affiliate links has a much higher value.  If a visitor click on one of your Adsense ads you may make anywhere from a few cents to a couple of dollars.  But if they click on your affiliate link and purchase the product you can make ten to twenty times as much, if not more.

This being said, there are times when Adsense makes sense.  Websites that are built to attract search engine traffic may be suitable for Adsense ads if the site has a lot of content, even if that content is low on quality.  Google Adsense frowns on these “made for Adsense (MFA) sites, but that doesn’t mean there is a workable solution for you to still earn an income.

You can even have an Adsense blog like this one, with categories devoted purely to Adsense related content, where Google Adsense ads are displayed along with Affiliate links in the sidebar.  As long as the content has some quality to it, there is the possibility of earning revenue from both Adsense and Affiliate products.

Another example is a site that serves up ads that offer high per click values.  A site or blog that features ads paying only a nickel may be better suited for affiliate sales.  However, if you can isolate certain keywords that generate a dollar per click or more, then the math can rapidly change to your favor.

The problem with chasing expensive Adsense clicks is the amount of competition.  Adsense-based Internet marketing models exploded in popularity a few years ago and if you are one of those who are entering this field now, you may find yourself up against a lot of tough competition.  This is especially so in the more lucrative niches with high click values.
